Louis Bernard Candidate for Evergreen School Board Position 5  Voters Pamphlet Statement

As an established 25-year Vancouver resident and the parent of a 6th grader, I'm concerned about the education that our students are receiving. Only 35% of Evergreen students meet standards for math, science, and english (per OSPI) while a neighboring district is double that nearing 70%. The Evergreen School District (ESD) ranks last of the nine Clark County school districts.

This is unacceptable and is a contributing factor why ESD has lost 5,000 in student enrollment since 2016, resulting in the loss of $90,000,000.00 in state funding. The ESD board commits that "all students will be world-competitive upon graduation"

They've failed! The board also commits to "creating a fiscally responsible system". How's the firing of two superintendents (within 4 years) without cause, costing the district over $500,000.00, fiscally responsible? We need new leadership, not low standards.

I believe in a returning to the core basics of education (reading, writing, and arithmetic), bringing back elementary school librarians, and advocating for security thus promoting a strong culture for learning. To place the needs of the students above all else, the board/district needs to operate more responsibly. I'll use my analytical business skills to make sound quality decisions. Vote Bernard for Evergreen!
